MLK Launches New State-of-the-Art Esports Program

This year, MLK has experienced many exciting changes, but none more significant than the launch of our new state-of-the-art Esports room—part of a districtwide initiative that has brought cutting-edge technology to every school in Atlantic City. The MLK Esports room is equipped with 26 high-end gaming PCs, professional filming and TV production equipment, multiple gaming consoles (including Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo systems), and a professionally designed curriculum and platform to support competitive play and media production.

Currently open to all interested 8th-grade students who meet the age requirement of 13, the program provides hands-on learning in several areas. Students explore the history of Esports, gain experience using industry-standard software to produce live broadcasts, and learn the fundamentals of a variety of competitive games. After training, students compete against other schools in the district in titles such as Rocket League, Madden NFL, College Football, FC Soccer, MLB The Show, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon, and more, planned for the future. With this initiative, the Atlantic City School District becomes one of the first in the nation to offer a comprehensive Esports program at the middle school level.

If your child is interested in joining and meets the age and grade requirements, they can see Mr. DeCicco for more information. The Esports program currently meets after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and one Saturday each month, with additional dates expected as the program continues to grow.
